Spring to Life: Spring Update for Minecraft

On March 25, 2025, Minecraft will receive a new seasonal game drop called "Spring to Life" (also referred to as Spring Drop 2025 or Drop 1 2025 for Bedrock Edition). It will be released for Java Edition 1.21.5 and Bedrock Edition 1.21.70, and will be available in snapshots, Previews, and betas. This drop focuses on ambience and environmental diversity: it introduces warm and cold variants of passive mobs, new foliage blocks, ambient sounds, and falling leaf particles.

New Mobs and Their Features

Passive Mob Variants

Animals now have biome-dependent variants:

  • Cows, pigs, and chickens now come in three variants: temperate, warm, and cold.

  • Temperate — the default variant.

  • Warm — spawns in hot biomes like deserts and savannas.

  • Cold — spawns in snowy or cold biomes such as snowy plains or ice spikes.

  • When bred, offspring inherit a random variant from one of their parents regardless of the current biome.

Sheep Wool Color

Now also biome-dependent:

  • Temperate: Common — white; Uncommon — black, gray, light gray, brown; Rare — pink.

  • Cold: Common — black; Uncommon — gray, light gray, white, brown; Rare — pink.

  • Warm: Common — brown; Uncommon — gray, light gray, white, black; Rare — pink.

Other Mob Updates

  • Wolf: Now has sound variants — Classic, Big, Cute, Puglin, Angry, Grumpy, and Sad.

  • Wandering Trader: Expanded trade stock, better pricing, and ability to buy items like water bottles and hay bales from players.

  • Cartographer: Sells new exploration maps pointing to various village types, jungle temples, and witch huts depending on biome.

New Blocks

Leaf Litter

  • Decorative block found in forests, dark forests, and wooded badlands.

  • Up to four can be placed in the same block space.

  • Smelted from any leaves, usable as fuel.

Wildflowers

  • Grow in birch forests, old growth birch forests, and meadows.

  • Can be used for yellow dye and multiplied with bone meal.

Bush

  • Spawns in plains, forests, and other biomes.

  • Tinted by biome, compostable, and spreadable via bone meal.

Firefly Bush

  • Found in swamps and near rivers.

  • Emits firefly particles when light level is 13 or lower and glows slightly (light level 2).

Cactus Flower

  • Has a chance to grow on cacti in deserts and badlands (10–25% depending on cactus height).

  • Used to craft pink dye.

Short and Tall Dry Grass

  • Spawns in deserts and badlands.

  • Bone mealable, compostable, usable as fuel, and eaten by sheep to regrow wool.

World Generation

Fallen Trees

  • New decorative structures with oak, spruce, birch, and jungle variants.

  • Appear in matching biomes, except in meadows, rivers, flower forests, bamboo jungles, and groves.

  • May have mushrooms or vines.

New and Changed Items

Eggs

  • New variants: Blue Egg (cold chicken) and Brown Egg (warm chicken).

  • Can spawn matching chicken variants when thrown.

Bundle

  • Now found in village chests.

Spawn Eggs

  • All spawn eggs now have unique textures representing the mob.

Ambience Features

Falling Leaves

  • All leaf blocks can now emit falling leaf particles.

Firefly Visuals and Sounds

  • Firefly Bush produces glowing particles, ambient sounds, and light at night.
