Sulfur Cube

The Sulfur Cube is a passive mob that spawns only in Sulfur Caves. It has two forms: large and small.

Main Properties

  • A large cube can absorb blocks. A small cube cannot absorb blocks.
  • When a large cube dies, it splits into two small cubes.
  • Small cubes grow into large cubes after 20 minutes.
  • A small cube can be fed slime to make it grow faster, or a golden dandelion to stop it from growing.
  • The cube can be caught in a bucket.
  • If shears are used on a cube that has absorbed a block, the block will drop and the cube will remain.

How Block Absorption Works

A large Sulfur Cube can pick up a block lying on the ground or receive a block from a player. When the cube absorbs a block, it stops moving, and the block becomes visible inside it. The type of absorbed block changes the cube’s physical properties.

Cube Protection

When the cube has absorbed a block, it gains protection from:

  • Melee attacks
  • Arrows and other projectiles
  • Falling blocks, such as anvils and stalactites
  • Explosions in Bedrock Edition
  • Fall damage
  • Freezing
  • Cacti and sweet berry bushes

Other types of damage, such as fire, suffocation, and poison, affect the cube as usual.

Block Effects: Archetypes

The type of absorbed block determines how the cube moves.

Sulfur Caves and Sulfur Springs

Sulfur Caves are a new underground biome. They are distinguished by colorful blocks and the presence of water. Sulfur Cubes, new blocks, and hostile mobs can be found here.

Sulfur Springs are found on the surface of the world. They are located directly above Sulfur Caves. A spring can be recognized by bubbles in the water and a light mist above it.

Potent Sulfur

Potent Sulfur is a special block found in Sulfur Springs. When placed underwater, it creates bubbles and releases gas. The gas causes the Nausea effect: the image on the screen slightly sways, and controlling the character becomes more difficult. The effect applies to both players and mobs.

New Building Blocks

Two complete block sets have been added. Each block has variants: a regular block, slab, stairs, and wall.

Sulfur Set

  • Sulfur Block
  • Polished Sulfur
  • Chiseled Sulfur
  • Sulfur Bricks

Cinnabar Set

  • Cinnabar Block
  • Polished Cinnabar

A new block called the Sulfur Spike has also been added. It is a dangerous spike that deals damage.

Other Changes

  • The textures of some blocks and the cube may differ slightly in the final version.
  • The colors of sulfur and cinnabar blocks were adjusted based on player feedback.
  • Raw cinnabar received a more stone-like appearance.
  • The chiseled cinnabar icon was changed.
  • The outer texture of the Sulfur Cube received more detail.

Where to Find and How to Test

The new features are available in beta versions of the game. Experimental settings must be enabled to access them. All features are still in development. Details may change after feedback from players. Bugs can be reported on the official bug tracker.
