Charm of Undying is a mod for Minecraft Java Edition that adds a separate accessory slot named Charm to the inventory, designed specifically for the Totem of Undying. As long as the item is in this slot, it triggers just like it would in your hand, but without occupying a hotbar slot or off-hand slot.
"Charm" Slot and Activation Logic
The slot appears in the accessory tab of the inventory — alongside other slots provided by the library. One slot per player, exclusively for the Totem of Undying — other items cannot be placed there.
The activation mimics vanilla behavior: when a player receives a fatal blow and a totem is in the slot, health is restored to 1, regeneration, absorption, and fire resistance are applied, and the item itself disappears. Effect parameters, duration, and screen animation remain unchanged and are taken directly from the game.
The slot does not stack or duplicate totems. It can hold only a single instance of the item — once triggered, the slot becomes empty, and the next death must be covered by a separate totem.

Displaying the Totem on the Player
When visualization is enabled, the totem renders on the character model while in the slot. This works in third-person view on your own character and in multiplayer — other players will see the item on your avatar's body. The totem's position on the model and the rendering itself can be adjusted in the configuration file.

Configuration
The charmofundying-server.toml file contains four parameters. All of them relate to the display of the totem on the player model and do not affect the protection mechanic itself — even if rendering is disabled, the totem in the slot will still save you from death.
Parameter | What it does |
Controls the display of the totem on the player model. When set to
Horizontal rendering offset along the
Vertical offset along the
Offset along the
Rendering offsets help adjust the item's position for modified skins, capes, or armor — useful when the totem's standard position is covered by other model geometry. The file is edited with a regular text editor; changes are applied after restarting the game.
Conclusion
Charm of Undying frees both the main and off-hand from the obligation of constantly holding the Totem of Undying. The mod is best suited for hardcore worlds, PvP servers, and high-difficulty survival — environments where the off-hand is more frequently occupied by a shield, and a totem slot in the hotbar gets in the way of quickly switching between weapons, blocks, and food.
Installation
A typical installation takes about 5 minutes. The flow is the same; only the loader and the matching build differ.
