Creeper Overhaul — a mod for biome-specific creeper variants in Minecraft
Minecraft version: 1.21.1
Loader: Fabric
Mod version: 4.0.6
Dependencies: Geckolib, Resourceful Config, Resourceful Lib
Creeper Overhaul ties the appearance and some features of creepers to the biome they spawn in. Instead of a single green mob from vanilla Minecraft, you get 16 variants, some with their own drops and an updated silhouette. The mod also offers an optional replacement of the standard creeper model with a new one.
How biome variants work
The logic is simple: on spawn the game checks the biome and substitutes the matching model. The standard creeper remains in the game as a mob — the new variants spawn alongside it, not instead of it. In Creative, each variant has its own spawn egg.
The drops of most variants are not limited to gunpowder. A jungle creeper drops gunpowder, while a cave one drops, besides gunpowder, also raw iron, raw gold, emeralds, diamonds or stone. This makes variants from rare biomes more rewarding targets than the standard creeper.

All creeper variants
The full list of variants looks like this:
Creeper | Biome |
Jungle Creeper | jungle |
Bamboo Creeper | bamboo jungle |
Desert Creeper | desert |
Badlands Creeper | badlands |
Hills Creeper | mountains |
Savannah Creeper | savanna |
Mushroom Creeper | mushroom fields |
Swamp Creeper | swamp |
Dripstone Creeper | dripstone caves |
Cave Creeper | regular caves |
Dark Oak Creeper | dark forest |
Spruce Creeper | taiga |
Beach Creeper | beaches |
Snowy Creeper | snowy biomes |
Ocean Creeper | oceans |
Birch Creeper | birch forests |
In large modpacks, due to altered world generation, some variants may appear more rarely.
New models and animations
The mod is not limited to a simple texture redesign. Some variants received a full redesign with new visual elements. As a result, the mobs look less like the standard creeper and fit their spawn locations better.

The most interesting variants
The changes are felt in biomes where the new models start to blend in with the surroundings. The Desert Creeper hides well among sand and sandstone, the Bamboo Creeper gets lost in dense bamboo thickets, and the Cave Creeper and Dripstone Creeper are less noticeable in underground caves thanks to their darker, stony design. In mushroom fields the Mushroom Creeper stands out with its bright red elements, while the Ocean Creeper got an appearance that matches aquatic areas. These variants show off the core idea of Creeper Overhaul well — to adapt the mobs' looks to a specific environment rather than just replace the standard model.

How the mod affects survival
The difference from a usual playthrough is most noticeable while exploring the world. Some species apply dangerous effects on explosion, such as poison or blindness, while other kinds are completely passive or neutral and attack only with ordinary melee hits in retaliation.

Conclusion
Creeper Overhaul solves the problem of the creepers' visual monotony in Minecraft and makes exploring biomes more interesting. Unlike ordinary resource packs, the mod changes not only textures but also the models and animations of the mobs. If you play with an RPG modpack or simply want more variety among hostile mobs without a radical change of mechanics, then this mod is a good fit for such scenarios.
Installation
A typical installation takes about 5 minutes. The flow is the same; only the loader and the matching build differ.
