Dynamic Trees - Biomes O' Plenty — a compatibility mod for dynamic tree growth from BoP in Minecraft
Minecraft version the article was tested and written on: 1.21.1
Range of supported versions: 1.16.5 – 1.21.1
Mod version: 3.4.0
Dependencies: Dynamic Trees, Biomes O' Plenty, TerraBlender, GlitchCore
Optional dependency: Dynamic Trees + (adds dynamic mushroom-trees)
Dynamic Trees - Biomes O' Plenty is a compatibility add-on that carries the behavior of the base Dynamic Trees mod over to the trees from Biomes O' Plenty in Minecraft. Without it, the BoP species remain static structures next to the already "brought to life" vanilla ones: a palm in the tropics or a redwood in a relict forest looks like an alien cube that appears instantly and disappears in a single block. The add-on removes this dissonance — the added species gain staged growth, segmented falling, seed drops and the rest of the dynamic trees' features.
What the add-on changes
During world generation the mod intercepts the spawning of BoP trees and substitutes dynamic analogues of the same species in their place. Already generated areas in an existing world are not changed — only newly created terrain is updated. The Dynamic Trees features related to growing, chopping and seed drops apply to the new species without any additional configuration.
Each tree first appears as a sapling, after which it grows branch by branch. A mature trunk responds to the surrounding climate: in warm biomes growth speeds up, in cold and dry ones it slows down. When felled, the tree falls in the direction opposite to the axe's blow.

Which trees the add-on replaces
The add-on covers practically the entire range of Biomes O' Plenty trees — tropical palms and the jacaranda, northern firs, redwoods and others. The behavior is the same for all of them: growth from a sapling, response to the biome climate, segmented falling of the trunk, seed drops from the leaves.
If the optional Dynamic Trees + dependency is installed, the add-on additionally replaces the large mushroom-like structures — the Toadstool with its white spots and the Glowshroom, which emits a faint light. Without Dynamic Trees + the mushrooms remain as the standard large BoP mushroom blocks.

Behavior in game
The added trees behave according to the single Dynamic Trees mechanic, without their own crafting recipes or blocks. The main points:
Trees grow gradually. The speed depends on the species, the biome and the
treeGrowthMultiplierparameter in the config.Leaves periodically drop seeds. If the modpack contains a seasons mod, the drop chance decreases in winter.
A tree can be felled with any axe. The trunk radius shows how many hits are needed: the thicker the trunk, the longer the falling animation.
Thin branches can be climbed like ladders — just step right up to them and hold the move-forward key.

Configuring behavior
The add-on has no separate config file with gameplay parameters. All the added species obey the Dynamic Trees config (dynamictrees-server.toml and dynamictrees-common.toml).
The key parameters from dynamictrees-server.toml that most strongly affect the add-on's trees:
Parameter | What it does |
Overall growth-speed multiplier. 0.0 stops growth entirely, 16.0 makes it almost instant.
Chopping-speed multiplier. A higher value shortens the time until the tree falls.
Base chance of a seed dropping from leaves when chopping. 0.0 disables the drop entirely.
The chance of a tree dropping a seed on its own without the player's involvement.
The probability that a dropped seed will plant itself in suitable soil.
When true, seeds are planted only in forest biomes. false allows planting in any biome with suitable soil.
The trunk falling animation. When false the tree is destroyed immediately on chopping.
Whether a falling trunk injures the player.
Permission to climb thin branches like ladders.
The overall enabling of dynamic tree generation in new chunks.
The strength of the biome's influence on growth speed. 0.0 — the biome has no effect, 1.0 — full effect.
Whether the climate affects the appearance of fruits and seed pods.
In dynamictrees-common.toml two lines matter:
Parameter | What it does |
Replaces the trees in generated villages with dynamic ones. When false the villages keep static trees.
Which seasons mod to use for the growth calculation if the modpack has several. * — auto-select.
Conclusion
Dynamic Trees - Biomes O' Plenty makes BoP forests visually uniform with the rest of the dynamic trees in the world. The add-on does not change BoP's biome generation itself, does not add new species and does not touch vanilla trees — it is a pure compatibility layer with no content of its own. It suits modpacks with a large number of biome mods, serious survival, roleplay servers and screenshot packs with shaders, where the forest stands as a self-sufficient part of the landscape.
Installation
A typical installation takes about 5 minutes. The flow is the same; only the loader and the matching build differ.
