Elytra Slot — A Mod That Adds a Separate Elytra Slot to the Minecraft Inventory
Minecraft version this article is based on: 1.21.5
Supported version range: 1.13.2 – 1.21.5
Dependencies: Curios API and Caelus API (NeoForge / Forge), Trinkets API (Fabric up to 1.19.2)
Elytra Slot solves one specific late-game problem: elytra in Minecraft occupy the chestplate slot, forcing you to choose between flight and protection. The mod adds a separate accessory slot for elytra, so you can wear a chestplate and elytra at the same time — no compromises required.
What the Mod Adds
The mod's only feature is a separate accessory slot for elytra. It doesn't replace or affect the standard chestplate slot — it simply adds to the player's inventory. While elytra sit in this slot, they function exactly as they do in vanilla.
On NeoForge and Forge, the slot is integrated through the Curios API and appears in the accessories menu under the back category. By default, that menu opens with the G key. On Fabric (versions up to and including 1.19.2), the equivalent slot is implemented through the Trinkets API and sits in the cape or back section of that interface.

Flight Mechanics With a Chestplate
Elytra behavior in the accessory slot is identical to vanilla:
Flight activation — double-tap Space while falling
Fireworks boost you regardless of slot — they work the same way from the Curios/Trinkets slot
Durability is consumed at the standard rate while gliding
Mending and Unbreaking both work on elytra in this slot
A chestplate in the regular slot still gives its full armor rating during flight
The standard chestplate slot remains unchanged: if you'd rather wear elytra the old way, that still works too.
The Two-Slot Restriction
You can't equip elytra in both the accessory slot and the chestplate slot at once. Once elytra occupy one of those slots, the other is locked to them. This rules out any situation where a player could get a double effect from a single item.
Character Rendering
In third-person view, the chestplate and elytra render on the character at the same time — both items are visible on the model. The geometry doesn't clash under normal conditions.

Conclusion
Elytra Slot adds a dedicated spot for elytra — no extra mechanics, no new items. It doesn't fundamentally change the balance of the game: you still have to reach the End, find elytra, and put together a chestplate. The only thing that disappears is the forced choice between flight and protection in the late game.
For late-game survival — especially with active PvE or on hard difficulty, where every point of protection matters — the mod solves the problem directly. For peaceful or creative sessions where armor isn't critical, Elytra Slot still works, but its value there is lower.
Installation
A typical installation takes about 5 minutes. The flow is the same; only the loader and the matching build differ.
