Macaw's Fences and Walls — a decorative mod for new types of fences, walls, and gates in Minecraft
Minecraft version tested and written for: 26.1.2
Supported versions range: 1.16.5 – 26.1.2
Macaw's Fences and Walls expands the selection of fences, walls, and gates in Minecraft. In vanilla, fences are represented by three forms — wooden fence, stone wall, and wooden gate — and they all share a single visual style. The mod brings different heights, silhouettes, and materials for enclosing territory: from low decorative picket fences to metal sections with barbed wire that deal damage upon contact.
Wooden Fences
The mod adds three distinct styles of wooden fences. Each is available for all wood types in the game — oak, spruce, birch, acacia, and all others.
Picket Fence — a low fence made of vertical boards with pointed tops.
Stockade Fence — a solid wall of vertically placed pointed logs, a full block high.
Horse Fence — two horizontal bars between posts with wide gaps. Visually reads as a ranch fence.

Hedges
A separate type of enclosure is the Hedge, made from leaf blocks. The color changes depending on the wood type: oak, spruce, birch, acacia, and others. In versions 1.18 and higher, the hedge leaves are recolored according to the biome they are placed in — just like vanilla leaves and grass work. An oak hedge in a jungle will become bright green, the same block in a savanna — yellowish.

Stone Walls
The stone set is broader than the wooden one. Each variant is available in all vanilla stone blocks.
Modern Stone Wall — a rectangular block without a top protrusion, connects evenly into long walls.
Railing Stone Wall — a low wall with metal railings on top.
Stone Pillar Wall — a variant with a square hole, having the silhouette of a thin pillar. A total of 14 stone materials are available.
Grass Topped Wall — 14 variations, the grass layer on top is recolored according to the biome just like vanilla grass blocks.
The hitbox of the new walls does not completely match the vanilla one. When tightly joining an old and a new stone wall, a visual gap may remain between them. Within the same type, the connection looks normal.

Defensive Fences
The mod features two blocks that deal damage to the player and mobs upon contact.
Wired Fence — a section with barbed wire on wooden posts. Damage is dealt to anyone who moves through the block's hitbox. It doesn't attack on its own — the reaction is exclusively to passing through.
Cheval De Frise — an obstacle made of crossed pointed stakes. Available in two versions: wooden and iron.
These blocks do not set targets on fire and do not act as poison, the damage is physical, applied once per crossing. Useful for surrounding a farm perimeter against spiders, zombies, and skeletons — less effective against creepers, as they detonate faster than the repeated damage is dealt.

Metal Fences and Gates
In versions for Minecraft 1.21.4 and above, the mod is supplemented with a full metal set:
Metal fences. A distinctive feature: blocks can be stacked vertically, meaning two metal fences placed one on top of the other form a single double-height section on one block space. There is nothing like this in vanilla.
Metal gates — behave like doors (and not like vanilla gates): two half-block wide leaves open synchronously by right-clicking or with redstone. They can also be stacked upwards for high entrances.
Old-Style Gates
In addition to the new metal set, the mod contains classic gates:
Highley Gates — a frame with diagonal braces inside, for wooden fences. Available for all wood types.
Stone gates — a couple of styles that visually match the mod's stone walls.
Pyramid Gates — a variety of wooden gates.
All new gates, just like vanilla ones, open with a right-click and a redstone signal.

How to Craft
The recipes match the vanilla logic: horizontal rows of sticks or stone blocks in a crafting table in shapes similar to a vanilla fence or wall. The mod does not introduce a separate crafting table — everything is crafted in the regular one.
Conclusion
Macaw's Fences and Walls solves one narrow but frequent problem: vanilla fences and walls are too monotonous for thematic builds — villages, fortresses, ranches, gardens, prisons. The mod covers it with wooden fences, stone walls with biome coloring, hedges, a metal set, and a couple of aggressive fences for defensive perimeters. Compared to the vanilla approach (one fence + one wall type), Macaw's Fences and Walls provides about eight times more options with the same crafting principle. Perfect for survival servers and single-player games with a focus on building, where vanilla enclosures look too sterile.
Installation
A typical installation takes about 5 minutes. The flow is the same; only the loader and the matching build differ.
