YUNG's Better Nether Fortresses reworks the vanilla Nether Fortress. It adds a dungeon made up of three zones: a network of bridges over lava lakes, a central citadel with traps and hidden rooms, and the Lava Halls, which run deep beneath the fortress itself. Each zone has its own architecture and its own type of loot. Mob spawning logic in Minecraft stays vanilla — farms work just like in a normal game.
Fortress structure
Each generated fortress consists of three zones that differ in location, geometry, and level of danger.

Bridge network
The outer part — a branching system of bridges over lava. Unlike the parallel vanilla corridors, here the network runs in several directions and includes two unique elements: a shelter (a small enclosed outpost) and a tower. It is at the bridge level that the fortress becomes visible from afar.

Citadel
The central feature of the fortress. A structure with rooms, staircases, and corridors made of nether brick. Most of the treasuries and spawners are located here. The internal layout is non-linear — several routes to the same rooms, dead ends, and vertical transitions between floors.

Lava Halls
The underground part beneath the fortress's main Citadel. The halls run deep and are located right next to the lava lakes. The layout is maze-like — unlike the Citadel, there are no vertical landmarks here to easily reorient yourself by. There is no natural lighting.

Mobs and spawners
Blazes and Wither Skeletons spawn by vanilla rules: Blazes — near spawners, Wither Skeletons — within the structure at light levels 0–7. Vanilla Blaze and Wither Skeleton farms built in the new fortresses work exactly as they do in the standard game.
Loot
The chests use the vanilla Nether Fortress loot table — the contents are predictable, nothing new compared to the standard game. The advantage is purely quantitative: a larger number of rooms with chests in a single structure shortens the time between runs. .
Compatibility
The mod generates new fortresses in any Nether biome, including those added by third-party world-generation mods. Conflicts with Nether biome mods are not documented.
The structure adapts to the terrain of the biome it generates in — no visible artifacts appear at the border with a non-standard biome. The mod makes no changes to mob spawn tables outside the fortress and does not affect the generation of other Nether structures.
Conclusion
The vanilla Nether Fortress is one of the simplest large structures in the game in terms of difficulty and geometry. Better Fortresses gives it real volume through three zones with a different pace of exploration. The Lava Halls are the only part that the vanilla game does not cover at all.
The main limitation is navigation. The Citadel's non-linear layout, with no clear axis of movement, means that on a first visit it is easy to waste a lot of time searching for the rooms you need or for the exit. In a vanilla fortress the corridors are predictable — here they are not. For players who deliberately farm Blazes or Wither Skeletons, this is a one-time problem: after a few visits the structure becomes clear. For those who drop in once for progression, it demands more attention than vanilla.
It suits survival builds where exploring structures is part of the gameplay. For speedruns or builds where the Nether Fortress is needed solely as a source of blaze rods, the size of the structure creates more obstacles compared to the vanilla one.
Installation
A typical installation takes about 5 minutes. The flow is the same; only the loader and the matching build differ.
